Scholarships for New & Returning AFP Members

AFP Greater Austin is pleased to offer professional development opportunities to fundraisers in the greater Austin area.

If you're interested in joining AFP, but need financial support, you can apply for a New Member, Membership Renewal or Fundraisers of Color Scholarship. The Association of Fundraising Professionals Greater Austin offers scholarships to help you become or continue being a member and receive the benefits of career development, a supportive network, membership discounts, educational opportunities and more! The scholarship fund is possible through individual giving, annual appeals, and other event-related projects.

Member Scholarship:
Application for a member scholarship is open to persons who have never been an AFP member or who have been an AFP member for five years or less. Scholarships in this category are limited to two years per member.

Returning Member Scholarship:
Application for a returning membership scholarship is open to persons who have been a member of AFP for at least one year. Scholarships in this category are limited to two consecutive years per member.

Fundraisers of Color Scholarship:
The fundraising and philanthropic space in Austin has historically marginalized and left out the voices of fundraisers of color and communities of color. It is our goal to proactively work to dismantle historic racism that has existed within our AFP chapter and in this field. With this and with the goals of inclusion, diversity, equity, and access in mind, the AFP Greater Austin Chapter will award scholarships each year to professionals in the philanthropic sector who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color).

Information for Scholarship Applicants:

When determining scholarship recipients, the Scholarship Committee prioritizes the following characteristics:

  • Applicants from nonprofit organizations with limited resources.

  • Applicants willing to pay a portion of the membership cost (25%, 50%, 75%).

  • Applicants currently involved with AFP. Preference is given to current volunteers. (Unless you are applying for a Member Scholarship)

  • Applicants who can demonstrate active participation—through committee and other volunteer activities—in the Greater Austin Chapter’s philanthropic efforts.

As a scholarship recipient, volunteerism in AFP is encouraged and you will be required to demonstrate active participation throughout the year.

The 2024 Membership Scholarship Applications will be open and awarded during the following cycles:

Cycle 1: Opens January 9, Closes March 8. Recipients notified by March 20.

Cycle 2: Opens May 7, Closes July 11. Recipients notified by July 26.

Cycle 3: Opens September 3, Closes November 15. Recipients notified by November 25.
