Our Commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access AFP Greater Austin is committed to the principles of inclusion, diversity, equity and access (IDEA) in the fundraising profession, the philanthropic sector and throughout all of society. We are committed to these principles as an ongoing proactive process in our governance, committees, membership, programs, and activities. We promote philanthropy and support the effective and ethical work of the diverse community of Greater Austin fundraisers. We define diversity as the meaningful recognition of individual and collective differences in identities, perspectives, traditions, abilities, and life experiences. We work to provide equity so that no one is discriminated against because of their characteristics. We value and believe in inclusiveness as a means to effectively support all philanthropic professionals in their pursuit to create a world where every living thing can thrive. We seek to create a diverse, equitable and inclusive industry that inspires and attracts an intergenerational group of fundraising professionals. We recognize disparities in philanthropic leadership and are committed to creating opportunities for diverse leadership that reflect the communities we serve. We rigorously uphold a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and creating safe spaces to call out inherent bias and discrimination in all its forms. AFP Greater Austin Chapter IDEA Exclusionary Behaviors Policy How to Report an Incident of Bias, Discrimination or Exclusionary Behavior The Association of Fundraising Professionals Greater Austin Chapter is committed to the principles of Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA) in an effort to create an environment that honors the dignity of every human being. Education is one of the core tenets of our work at AFP. In that vein, we work to improve awareness of biases in our society and its impact on people. This includes acknowledging, educating and repairing harm caused by racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, xenophobic, ableist or other exclusionary behaviors. Exclusionary behaviors are comments or actions that overtly or often subtly, unconsciously and sometimes unintentionally express a stereotypical or prejudiced attitude toward a member of a marginalized group. Exclusionary language can be incredibly damaging to others, whether intentional or not, especially to those who have been historically underrepresented or misrepresented. Our chapter does not condone this behavior and we believe, through education, outreach and personal accountability, we can better address these actions. Examples of exclusionary behaviors could be:
