AFP Virtual Roundtable  - August 2020

AFP Austin Roundtable Discussion: Decolonizing Wealth by Edgar Villanueva

Join AFP on Thursday, August 13 at noon for a roundtable discussion about Edgar Villanueva’s groundbreaking book, Decolonizing Wealth, that offers “a provocative analysis of the oppressive dynamics at play in philanthropy and finance.”

The roundtable discussion will be led by Madge Vasquez, CEO of Mission Capital, and Kristin Campbell, AFP President Elect.

Participants are encouraged to read the book ahead of the discussion. You can also check out this inspiring Instagram Live conversation that Edgar participated in with Vu Le of Nonprofit AF.

Participants will:

  • Connect with other nonprofit colleagues eager to learn more about some of the harmful underpinnings in philanthropy.
  • Examine our own experiences surrounding fundraising and relationship management in a culture of white supremacy.
  • Discuss ways that we as nonprofit professionals can examine our own white privilege, the power of white allyship, and be a part of the solution in our own organizations and communities.
