The Values and Skills Institute is a comprehensive, foundational series of educational offerings and curated conversations. While created primarily with an audience of new and emerging fundraisers in mind, all fundraising professionals will find value in the content.

Values and Skills Institute programming:

  • Is offered in a wide variety of media to maximize accessibility, including white papers and blogs; on-demand recordings; live and interactive sessions (delivered both virtually and in-person); as well as opportunities for participants to connect socially
  • Highlights new voices in the field (in line with the AFP Emerging Leaders Initiative)
  • Operates under the AFP IDEA Statement of Principles.

Humans are hardwired for story, making storytelling a powerful tool for nonprofits to build awareness and support for their mission. However, it’s crucial that the stories we tell do no harm. Join us for an interactive discussion about the best practices to tell compelling stories that are also collected ethically, retain the dignity of the storyteller, and advance equity.

 July                 Workshopping the Ladder of Engagement in your Annual Development Plan

 At the June chapter meeting, Michelle Vryn presented on how to use the ladder of engagement model to engage supporters and guide them to higher levels of affinity and action. Join the Values & Skills Institute for an interactive workshop designed to help participants put these ideas into practice. Attendees are encouraged to bring their development plans and real-world questions.

Deirdre - a former president of the AFP Greater Austin Board of Directors - has more than 20 years of development experience in Central Texas, serving in leadership roles at organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, Planned Parenthood and - most recently - Jeremiah Program.

 May                    CFRE Certification: What is it? Do I need it? How do I get it?

The profession doesn't require practitioners to earn any specific certifications; why would we volunteer to get one? Hear from a new CFRE, a veteran CFRE, as well as a representative from CFRE International, the organization that sets certification standards for the industry and facilitates the certification process.
